Reflections of Light: Geoff Allen Paints The Palms Pool
Hotel Inspires Watercolor Series
Geoff Allen’s vivid watercolors bring The Palms at Indian Head to life. Known for his plein air technique and rich use of light and shadow, Allen recently turned his brush to the hotel’s mid-century architecture, the jewel-like pool, and surrounding desert. In this blog, you’ll discover what inspired him, how Borrego Springs continues to feed his creativity, and how you can sign up for his watercolor workshop this March.
Painting The Palms Pool
Geoff Allen was drawn to the purity of the pool water, the symmetry of the hotel’s architecture, and the contrast of desert flora.
“The reflections are like jewels. The hotel evokes a feeling of another era that has waned, but still, a vibrance persists,” says Allen.
His pieces celebrate the interplay of light and the stillness of the Borrego desert. The pool paintings offer a quiet nod to timeless design and a sense of place unique to Borrego Springs.

Why Borrego Inspires
“Borrego is small, easy to maneuver around. No parking fees, plenty of unique scenes that illustrate the vastness of the valley, atmosphere, and light,” Allen explains.
He finds inspiration everywhere—from Church Lane to Coyote Wash, the market at Christmas Circle, and the changing desert sky.
